The Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM) at the University of Bern employs over 130 staff and provides undergraduate and post-graduate education and carries out research in a range of disciplines relevant to public health. Research groups cut across divisions, facilitating an interdisciplinary approach to research in the fields of social and behavioural health, clinical epidemiology and biostatistics, and international and environmental health. Applications are invited for a Research Assistant (50%) at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine, University of Bern. The position is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). Project description The project aims to improve methods for the analysis and interpretation of data about the effects of vaccines. Specific methods include systematic reviews and meta-analysis, simulation of data and comparison of simulations to empirical data. The research assistant will assist in the collection and analysis of data from primary and secondary research. Project leaders: Prof. Matthias Egger, Prof. Nicola Low. Tasks

To conduct systematic reviews of vaccine trials, including conducting literature searches, extraction of data from publications, data management and data analysis. To assist with management and analysis of data from primary research studies. To prepare manuscripts in English.

Preferred Profile

Experience in conducting systematic reviews (essential) and meta-analysis (desirable). Masters degree in epidemiology, public health, or a related field (desirable). Good written and spoken English. Good teamwork and time management skills.

The appointment is available immediately or by agreement with the project manager. The duration of the position is 24 months.
